OPPORTUNITY: Digital Partner
Burr Forest Group is looking for a Digital Partner to work on internal and external projects.
Burr Forest Group (BFG) is growing and we want to grow intelligently. We work with some of Canada’s most important agricultural organizations. We help them communicate complex research, navigate policy, and reach the people who need to hear from them most: farmers and lawmakers.
Right now, we need a digital partner who can help us do that better.
This is a fractional, contract role. Not staff. Not yet. But it could be. If the fit is right and the work is good, we tend to find ways to deepen those relationships.
What We’re Looking For
Someone who builds websites the way a good communicator writes: with the audience front and centre. Our clients work in agriculture. Their websites carry a lot of weight: research summaries, agronomic data, policy briefings, extension content. It’s not flashy stuff, but it matters enormously. The person we’re looking for knows how to make dense, important information navigable and approachable.
That means strong UX instincts. It means knowing when to simplify and when to let the complexity breathe. It means caring about whether a grain farmer on a phone in a field can actually find what they came for.
Core Skills and Experience
Web Development and Design
You build websites. You can code them. You can design them. You understand the difference between a site that looks good in a mockup and one that actually works for the people using it. You have experience designing for organizations that manage significant volumes of research, technical, or agronomic data.
App Development
Some of what our clients need isn’t a website; it’s a tool. An app. Something that helps a grower make a decision, or helps a commodity group present their data in a way that’s actually useful. We want someone who’s built things like that, or who can.
Complex, Multi-Stakeholder Projects
Our projects often involve multiple clients, multiple voices, and multiple layers of approval. You’ve been there. You know how to hold a timeline together when the inputs keep changing. You don’t silo yourself. You communicate, you adapt, and you stay anchored to the end goal.
Creative Problem-Solving
We don’t always know exactly what we need when we start. Neither do our clients. The best solutions we’ve seen come from people who ask good questions and bring ideas to the table that weren’t in the original brief. That’s what we’re hoping for here.
Marketing Sensibility
You don’t have to be a marketer. But it helps if you think like one. That is, if you understand why a call-to-action matters, why the user journey shapes the design, and why a technically perfect site can still fail if nobody knows what to do when they land on it.
What You’ll Work On
To start, there are two clear priorities.
BFG’s Own Website
Burrforest.com and theextensionists.com are busy and about to evolve and get busier. You’ll help us think through what it should be and then help us make it that.
Client Web Projects
Several of our clients are asking us for web support. These are agricultural organizations — commodity groups, farm organizations, research bodies — with complex mandates and real audiences who depend on them for information. The work will vary. Some of it will be new builds. Some will be revisions and improvements to existing sites.
- BFG’s and many of its client’s websites are built using WordPress.
Who Thrives Here?
BFG is a small, high-functioning team. We move quickly when we need to, and we take our time when the work demands it. We’ve built our reputation on doing things well and on understanding the industry we serve, from the field to the boardroom.
The person who thrives in this role is someone who can work independently, communicate proactively, and bring genuine curiosity to the agriculture sector. You don’t need to be a farmer. But you need to respect the people we work for and understand that the information we’re helping them share matters.
The Details
This is a fractional, contract role. We’re open to conversations about scope and structure. If you’re the right person, we’ll figure out what the arrangement should look like.
