Why Agriculture Still Inspires Me
Michelle Lewis, Burr Forest Group’s newly-hired account manager, shares her journey in ag and what fuels her passion.
Growing up on a farm, agriculture has always been part of my foundation. I saw firsthand the mix of grit, resilience, and optimism it takes to feed the world. Even as a kid, I understood that agriculture wasn’t just a job—it was a way of life.
That early passion led me to pursue a degree in Agribusiness from the University of Manitoba. At the time, I didn’t know exactly where that path would take me, but I knew I wanted to stay close to the industry. Sixteen years later, I’ve had the privilege of working in many areas of agriculture—from lending to sales, marketing, and now communications. Each chapter has deepened my appreciation for the people in this industry and the vital role agriculture plays in our lives.
What excites me most about agriculture today is the pace of change. It’s no longer just about growing crops or raising livestock—it’s about data, innovation, sustainability, and community. Every year, we get smarter about how we farm. Technology is helping us do more with less, reduce our environmental footprint, and make better decisions. And yet, even with all this progress, the human side of agriculture remains just as important. Relationships still matter. Trust still matters.
On a personal level, my husband Brent and I live near Minnedosa, where we’re raising our two boys, Bennett and Mack. Together with family, we grow wheat, canola, peas, and soybeans.
As I look ahead to my role with Burr Forest Group, I hope to bring a blend of practical knowledge, curiosity, and heart to everything I do. Agriculture has changed a lot since I was a kid, but what hasn’t changed is how proud I am to be part of it. I’m excited to keep learning, growing, and hopefully making a meaningful impact along the way.
