Part-time | Remote | October 2026
Good work deserves to be seen.
If you can make agriculture’s best ideas stop someone mid-scroll, and you don’t mind asking for the sale, we’d like to meet you.
About Burr Forest Group
Burr Forest Group (BFG) is a Canadian agricultural communications, training and consulting firm. We work across four pillars: Training, Policy, Communications and Extension Support, and Thought Leadership. We’re farmer-rooted, independent, and small enough that your work matters on day one.
Why This Role and Why Now?
Training and policy is where BFG is growing the fastest. We run the Ag Leadership and Extension Summit, a monthly virtual workshop series called the Effective Extension Exchange, Lunch and Learn sessions, custom training, and a growing network of instructors we call Burr Forest Fellows.
We launched the Exchange this fall expecting it to fill quickly. It hasn’t yet. The people who want it often need a manager’s approval, an invoice instead of a credit card, or a shorter path to register. Reaching them takes steady marketing and real conversations with the organizations that send their staff to training.
We also have The Extensionists podcast, a growing body of policy and thought leadership writing, and a library of training videos and photos that rarely gets used.
Then there are our clients: farm organizations and commodity groups across the agriculture industry that share research, events, and programs with farmers, and need their marketing elevated.
BFG’s policy services are taking off, and producer organizations need to know we offer them.
This role markets all of it, and helps turn interest into revenue: seats, sponsorships, policy clients, and partnerships.
Where the Time Goes
| Area | Approximate share of time |
| Training marketing and organizational sales | About 45% |
| The Extensionists: promotion and sponsorship | About 20% |
| BFG brand, policy services and thought leadership | About 20% |
| Client social media (billable) | About 15% |
Key Responsibilities
Training
- Market every BFG course and event, each with a seat target and a launch plan built back from the date. The farm calendar matters: our training season runs November to April.
- Sell to organizations as well as individuals. Work with a list of commissions, associations, research organizations and ag companies that send staff to training. Offer team passes, seat blocks and invoicing, and close the sale.
- Ask what stops people from registering, and bring what you hear back to the team so we can fix it.
- Keep listing copy sharp and current, and the path to register short. Our Program Operations Manager sets up registration. You make the listing sell.
- Turn training footage and photos into posts, short reels, and testimonials.
- Recruit new Fellows, and help Fellows promote their own courses.
- Report registrations against targets each week during a campaign, so we can adjust while there’s still time.
The Extensionists
- Grow the podcast. Review new episodes for the best moments, select the most engaging clips, schedule them, and write episode posts, working with our producer.
- Support sponsorship sales from our package, from single episodes to series and combined training-and-podcast packages. Prepare proposals, follow up, and coordinate with our ad sales partner so nobody gets asked twice.
- Track what each sponsor is owed, make sure they get it, and send a short recap at the end.
BFG Brand, Policy Services and Thought Leadership
- Own the BFG social media calendar and newsletter.
- Monitor website and social media analytics, and report monthly on what’s working and what to change.
- Run the publishing side of thought leadership: edit lightly, schedule, and get each column in front of the right readers.
- Market BFG’s policy services, working with our Director, Policy and Strategy to turn policy work into posts, short pieces, and case studies.
- Market BFG’s communications and extension support services, with case studies drawn from real client work.
- Keep the image and video library organized. Make day-to-day graphics in Canva, and brief our designer and web developer on larger design and web work.
Client Social Media (Billable)
- Plan, write, and schedule social media for BFG clients such as farm organizations and commodity groups, under the direction of our Senior Project Manager and account leads, with approval before anything posts.
- Keep each client’s voice distinct from BFG’s and from each other, flag issues on client channels, and report monthly.
- Support policy communications for clients: turn policy updates and positions into posts and short pieces, working with our Director, Policy and Strategy.
- Track your hours against each client’s agreement.
Working Relationships
You’ll report to Toban Dyck, Principal, who sets marketing priorities, sponsorship targets, and pricing. Day to day, you’ll work with:
- Director, Policy and Strategy, who supplies the substance behind policy content and course descriptions.
- Program Operations Manager, who gives you course dates and registration numbers. Once someone registers or signs on as a Fellow, they handle that person’s communications.
- Senior Project Manager, who directs client social media work and puts your campaigns on the firm-wide calendar.
- Finance Manage, for billing on sponsorships and client work.
- Our podcast producer, for footage.
- Our designers and web developer.
What We’re Looking For
- Comfort asking for money. You like starting conversations with organizations, following up, and closing. Experience selling sponsorship, advertising or registrations is a strong asset.
- Experience in agricultural communications or marketing, or a strong interest and some grounding in the sector.
- A good eye for short-form video, and the ability to spot the quote that will stop someone mid-scroll.
- Clear, plain-language writing for social media, newsletters and the web.
- Experience managing social media for organizations or clients, including content calendars and approvals.
- Organized and self-directed in a remote team. Experience with Asana, Google Workspace, Canva and Adobe tools is an asset.
- An understanding of extension, or a willingness to learn how research moves to the farm.
First 90 Days
- Month one: Talk with five organizations about what stops them from registering staff. Launch a team pass offer for the Exchange. Build the sponsorship prospect list with Toban.
- Month two: Launch Summit 2027 promotion and sponsor outreach. Close your first sponsorship. Set the social and newsletter calendar for the training season.
- Month three: Take on social media for one or two client accounts. Plan promotion for the next round of Fellow courses. Report on registrations, sponsorship and client hours.
What We Offer
- Part-time hours to start, about two to three days a week, with room to grow as sponsorship and training sales grow.
- An hourly rate or monthly retainer.
- Work from home, with a small, supportive team that plans well and talks often.
